British Blind Open 2016 Win for Bothwell Golfer

Alan Morgan of Bothwell Castle GC has won the 2016 ISPS HANDA British Blind Open at Telford Golf Club in Shropshire.

Guided by fellow Bothwell member Irene McGee, Alan won with with a two round nett aggregate score of 140 (68 and 72), winning by 6 shots from runner up PatrickMorgan Jnr from Ireland.

The Telford course, designed by John Harris and Brian Griffiths, both renowned architects, was where Ian Woosnam won his first professional tournament. It's a testing par 72, 6454 yard parkland course, with steeply sloping fairways and greens.

The event was the 29th British Blind Golfer's Open (BBGO) with players from 9 countries taking part. On the final day's play Alan was paired with In Chan Cho from South Korea, who had previously beaten him by 3 strokes to win the Canadian Blind Golf Open at Halifax Nova Scotia back in 2012.

Alan and Irene's next major international events will be the ISPS Handa Japanese Open on the 8th November, followed by the International Blind Golf World Championships, which are to be held at the Shinnin Kouen Golf Club in Japan.
