Juniors finish 3rd in tense Scottish Final of Home Nations Championship

  • 17 October 2016
In what was an incredibly closely fought final, the Junior Team lost the Scottish Championship by just 2 shots, eventually finishing 3rd on count back, just missing out on the Home Nations Final in Spain next year as only 2 teams from each country qualify.

The result was in doubt until the very last match when a good score from the last player from St. Andrews New Club (whose score had to count as one of their team had already had a no return and 5 out of 6 scores have to count) allowed them to leapfrog the other teams into first place and win with a score of 273. That left 3 other teams in joint second on 275 - Murrayfield, Carluke and Bothwell.

The second qualifying spot was decided on the 6th non-counting score which Murrayfield won by one stroke from Bothwell Castle. Commiseration to the team who put up a valiant show in the final for a second year in a row.
