Mhairi McKay made Honorary Member at BCGC

At an Honorary Members evening at the club, professional golfer Mhairi McKay became the club's latest Honorary Member. Now resident in the United States, former Australian Open and 5 time runner up on the LPGA Tour, Mhairi began golfing at Bothwell at he age of 10.

After representative honours as a schoolgirl Mhairi went on to win Scottish and British national amateur titles and representing GB and I in the Curtis Cup. As a professional she also represented Europe twice in the Solheim Cup against the United States.

Accepting her award Mhairi (pictured above with Past Captain Martin Dickson(left) and Captain Gareth Rees) recalled the enjoyable times she had playing with her sister Fiona and others in a successful ladies team and the support she had received from fellow players including Joyce Scott who had been instrumental in her getting a scholarship to Stanford University in California.


After receiving her award Mhairi also unveiled the club's new Honorary Members board and a new Club History display.

The club also recognised the other 10 current Honorary Members of the club by awarding them Honorary Members bag tags. They included Pamela Pretswell who is currently playing on the Ladies European Tour who had also just arrived from the United States after competing in the US Ladies Open.
