Top Scots and golfing legend at Bothwell Castle GC opening

  • 1 May 2014
Scotland’s No.1 golfer Stephen Gallacher, former world No. 1 and Masters champion Ian Woosnam and leading Scottish ladies professional Pamela Pretswell were at Bothwell Castle Golf Club to celebrate the official opening of the re-modelled section of the golf course on Wednesday 30th April.

Watched by a few hundred members and other golf fans the three professionals enthralled the crowd with their golfing prowess. They also gave advice to their fellow amateur playing partners and invited juniors to participate where possible. This was followed by a Q and A session in the clubhouse where they again demonstrated their knowledge and enthusiasm for the game.

“The changes greatly enhance the visual and playing quality of the course…” - Ian Woosnam

Commenting on the course changes Ian Woosnam said “The changes greatly enhance the visual and playing quality of the course. The new open ditch and bunkering provide an extra dimension to the 2nd half of the course and will require golfers of all levels to think their way round the course.”

Stephen Gallacher added “It's great that Bothwell Castle is investing in continually improving the golf course. The recent changes, altering the line of some holes and introducing some feature bunkers and mounding adds definition that will make it a more enjoyable challenge for both members and visitors”

“The 15th in particular now is a far more interesting and demanding hole with its own swilken bridge. The new fairway bunkers make careful positioning of the tee shot a priority.”

The extensive course changes have been made possible by a significant donation by member Les Hutchison. The club have recognised his contribution by confirming on him the honour of being the clubs first ever ‘patron member’.

Later this year the club will host the Scottish Under 14 Boys and Girls Open Championships for 2014.
